I recently started reading the Logo, Font and Lettering Bible again. There are a lot of examples of logos, icons and typography in the book from the first half of the 20th century. That style particularly that of the 1950s drove me to a search for ads of that era. There is something about the design of the 50s, especially the typography, that has such a timeless appeal. It’s all very clean and stylish. In a way, I’ve always been drawn to that retro feel even though I rarely borrow from it in my own work… In gathering these samples I’m starting to think that maybe that should change.
